On Friday, May 23, legendary singer/songwriterBilly Joelannounced on Instagramthat he has been forced to cancelall of his remaining tour dates because he has recently been diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), which is a neurological issue where fluid builds up in cavities deep inside the brain. "This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance. Under his doctor's instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period," reads the post. Shortly after, former child star and musicianDanny Bonaducemade an Instagram post where hecracked a joke about Joel copying him, but in all seriousness, he said he had the same condition and there is hope for Joel. "Once again Billy Joel is copying me. I just read that he was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus. He's scheduled to have the same brain surgery I had 2 years ago and I am 100% better. Wishing him the best and if he wants to talk, I'm here," wrote Bonaduce. Bonaduce's NPH surgery was done almost two years ago, in June 2023. At the time,he told TMZthat he had been suffering from a "mystery illness" for months, seeing "100 doctors," until finally he was diagnosed with NPH. The brain surgery was a success, though NPH is not curable. People with NPHwill likely undergo dozens of surgeriesin their lifetime to fix or replace the shunt that has been surgically implanted in their brains. Hopefully, Joel gets the care he needs, much like Bonaduce did. Dr. Michael Williams at UW Medicine in Seattle is the one who did Bonaduce's surgery. Bonaduce is fond of sporting his "I love Dr. Michael Williams" shirt that the people at UW sent him after hesaid in an interviewthat he would wear one if he had it. Joel ended his Instagram post by saying, "I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding." Joel recently celebrated his 76th birthday, withtributes pouring from famous friends and fans alike. He is currently married toAlexis Roderick, 43, and they share two daughters,Della, 9, andRemy, 7.
