News Sitdownairing May 28, theSex and the Citystar detailed the advice she and husband Matthew Broderick offer their kids She said she wants them "to be able to ultimately take care of themselves, support themselves — emotionally, financially" Sarah Jessica Parkeris speaking candidly about raising children in the public eye. During an appearance onTheE! NewsSitdown with Bruce Bozziairing May 28, theSex and the Citystar, 60, explained the advice she gives her eldest son, James Wilkie, 22, who recently began his own acting career. "I really want my children to be educated in the ways that are fulfilling to them," Parker explained. "I don't think that there is one way to be an educated person or to be equipped to be an adult and try to fashion a life for yourself after what would be considered 'finishing college'—let's say 22 years old." Kristina Bumphrey/Variety via Getty She continued, "You want for them to be pursuing things that are exciting and challenging and hard and gratifying and to be able to ultimately take care of themselves, support themselves — emotionally, financially, and that they can be in the world and be a reliable person to themselves and to other people. And so we talk about work like that." In February, Wilkie and his father, Parker's husbandMatthew Broderick, appeared in the CBS seriesElsbethin an episode together. While reflecting on the special father-son moment, Broderick said his son overcame his nerves. "It was great. We had two days together," the Tony Award winner explained during theE! News Sitdownalongside Parker. "It was really fun to hang around the craft service table and eat snacks. He was nervous but he got over that. We had a great couple of days." Parker also emphasized the importance of her children feeling like they have choices in life. "I'm curious to see what they all do, but I hope that they feel—I hopeallyoung people feel—to some degree, that they have choices and that there isn't one way," she concluded. In addition to Wilkie, theHocus Pocus alum and Broderick also share twin daughtersTabitha HodgeandMarion Loretta Elwell, 15. During an appearance onJenna and Friendson April 21, Parker explained that people sometimes getan "unfair" ideaabout her twin daughters.
