On Tuesday, May 27, HBO announced that the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley have been cast inthe upcoming series adaptationofJ.K. Rowling's beloved books. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry, inheriting the role fromDaniel Radcliffe, Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger, whoEmma Watsonfirst played, and Alastair Stout has been cast as Ron Weasley, whoRupert Grintportrayed in the films. All three actors are newcomers, per the streamer. Alamy In a press release, showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer Mark Mylod said they were "delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron" following an "extraordinary search" for the iconic roles. "The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen," they said of McLaughlin, Stanton and Stout. "We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there." The trio joins a slate of stars who werepreviously cast in some of the other beloved Wizarding World roles. John Lithgow will play Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer will play Professor Minerva McGonagall (originated byDame Maggie Smith),Paapa Essieduwill play Professor Severus Snape (originated by the lateAlan Rickman) and British comedianNick Frostwill play gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid (originated by the lateRobbie Coltrane). Professor Quirinus Quirrell and caretaker Argus Filch have also been cast. Luke Thallon will play the nervous Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, who was previously portrayed by Ian Hart, and Paul Whitehouse will play Filch, who was originated by David Bradley in the films.
